Employer duties, risk assessment, safety committees and incident reporting.

Every employer, regardless of size, has a general duty to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the safety, health and welfare of workers, and must carry out an annual written risk assessment.

Establishments with 25 or more employees must have a safety and health committee (section 25E).

Core employer duties

  • Safe premises, equipment and systems of work
  • Information, instruction, training and supervision
  • Personal protective equipment where needed
  • Report serious accidents and dangerous occurrences to the OSH Agency
  • Keep records of accidents and occupational illnesses
