Module 7 · Equal Opportunity Act, Chap. 22:03

Equal Opportunity

Protected grounds, harassment, victimisation and the EOC and Tribunal.

Protected grounds (closed list)

  • Sex
  • Race
  • Ethnicity
  • Origin (including geographical origin)
  • Religion
  • Marital status
  • Disability

Age and sexual orientation are not protected grounds under the Act. Good practice is still to treat all workers fairly and base decisions on merit.

Complaints are made to the Equal Opportunity Commission, which investigates and attempts conciliation. Unresolved matters may go to the Equal Opportunity Tribunal.
